Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) leaves are used as an antibacterial and astringent remedy. Experimental data indicate that the leaves exhibit capillary-strengthening, anticoagulant, membrane-stabilizing and anti-inflammatory activities.
Infusions and decoctions of hazel leaves are widely used in folk medicine for the treatment of a number of diseases of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system.
Preparations of common hazel are widely applied in inflammation of the prostate, liver and kidney diseases and as an appetite stimulant; in acute and chronic prostatitis, prostate adenoma, for the treatment of anemia and hypovitaminosis.
Decoction of the leaves is used as a diuretic; in Bulgarian medicine – for prostate hypertrophy; hazel leaves (Folia Coryli) and bark are prescribed to treat prostatitis, the leaves – in acute and chronic prostatitis, adenoma.
Hazelnut leaf is an ingredient of herbal teas ” Потенціал / Potential” and ” Іван-чай-Антеа (Гармонійний) / Fireweed (Harmonious)”, as well as useful bath tea “Чоловіча сила / Male strength” (125 g in a linen bag and a wooden tube), produced by APC “Antea’, for both internal consumption and flavoring of the bath and phytobarrels.
