Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)

Fresh fruits and juice of black elderberry act as a diaphoretic, expectorant and tonic. They are used for diabetes, gastric ulcer, hepatitis, respiratory infections, neuralgia, rheumatism, sciatica, radiculitis, some dermatoses, atherosclerosis. The fruit juice is recommended for impotence.

All parts of black elderberry have diuretic properties; bark, leaves, flowers, fruits possess diaphoretic and anti-inflammatory effects. The fruits have laxative action.

The infusion of the dried berries promotes bowel movements, improves bile secretion, enhances diuresis. Kissels are prepared from the dried berries, which are used as a laxative.

Thickened decoction of black elderberry is used for pain after tooth extraction, sciatica, migraine.

The berries cooked with honey are useful for mental fatigue.

* Infusion of the dried black elderberry fruits (a tablespoon of raw material per 200 ml of boiling water) – a quarter cup 3-4 times a day.

* Decoction (jelly) of the fruits: 1 tbsp. of crushed raw materials pour a glass of water, boil on low heat for 10 minutes, cool. Drink in small sips of half a glass 2-3 times a day.
