Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)

Chamomile flowers have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, carminative, mild sedative, antimicrobial action and are used for symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal tract, such as upset stomach, indigestion, flatulence. The infusion of chamomile flowers are also administered in mild cases of insomnia due to nervous disorders.

Externally, the infusion is used to treat inflammation and irritation of the skin and mucous membranes.

Chamomile flowers contain essential oil (0.4-1.5%), which has an intense blue color due to the content of chamazulene; flavonoids (up to 8%), amino acids, bitter substances, coumarins, polysaccharides, tannins also occur.

The taste is spicy, bitter. The odour is strong, fragrant.
