Calendula is a well-known annual cultivated medicinal plant, rich for vitamins (carotenoids), flavonoids and saponins.
Pot marigold flowers are ingredients of herbal bath tea for both internal consumption and flavoring of the bath and phytobarrels “Чоловіча сила / Male Strength” (125 g in a linen bag and wooden tube), produced by APC «Antea».
The following types of biological activities were taken into account to substantiate the incorporation of calendula flowers into the herbal teas:
– anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, wound healing, detoxifying, antispasmodic, choleretic and sedative properties; improvement of regeneration processes («ІмунПлюс-АНТЕА» / «ImmunePlus-ANTEA»);
– anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, spasmolytic, cholagogue and antimicrobial; the use of pot marigold flower gives a good therapeutic effect in gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, colitis, enterocolitis, liver and biliary tract diseases («Очисний-АНТЕА» / “Cleanse-ANTEA”);
– antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and wound healing; in folk medicine, marigold tincture is applied for condylomatosis of the urethra and bladder, microclysters with infusion of its inflorescences are administered for coliculitis, and in a mixture with other plants – for prostate atony accompanied with chronic prostatitis, male infertility, impotence, frequent pollutions, priapism, acute prostatitis and premature ejaculation; preparations of calendula flowers are useful to take orally as a good diuretic and diaphoretic, especially in urolithiasis and gallstones; the flowers work well as a urinary cleanser in salt diathesis; Lycopene, present in Calendulae flos, reduces 5-alpha-reductase and cell proliferation, activates apoptosis, exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects («Потенціал-АНТЕА» / «Potential-ANTEA»).
