Black currant fruit is a multivitamin source, containing vitamins C, P, E, A, B as well as pectins, sugars, organic acids, flavonoids.
The leaves and fruits are used in scientific medicine due to their diuretic, diaphoretic, antimicrobial, capillary-strengthening, tonic and immunostimulating properties. The dried or fresh fruits are useful for hypochromic anemia, periodontitis, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, arrhythmias, hypertension, colds and infectious diseases.
All parts of black currant are used in folk medicine as a diuretic in diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, diaphoretic and anti-inflammatory in respiratory infections, bronchitis, whooping cough.
The tincture of leaves, fruits, bark of branches of Ribes nigrum is administered for gout as a multivitamin and antiscorbutic agent; the infusion of branches, fruits and juice – for headaches.
Externally, the decoction and tincture are applied for dermatitis, exudative diathesis, sexually transmitted diseases and eye disorders.
The wine tincture of the black currant buds and fruits has a tonic effect on heart disease. The decoction, infusion and juice of leaves and fruits are recommended for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea, hypertension, atherosclerosis.
* Decoction: 1,5 tbsp. of black currant berries in a glass of boiling water, boil on low heat for 10 minutes, cool. Drink half a glass 3 times a day.
* Fresh juice of black currant fruit is consumed for gastritis with low acidity – a quarter cup 3 times a day.
* Fruit juice with honey (in a ratio of 3: 1) is taken for colds, coughs, hoarseness – 2 tbsp. 3-4 times a day.
